BOLDI: Genesis at Sauska Winery Villány
Artworks have an ephemeral nature: they appear during exhibitions or auctions but vanish from public view once purchased. In the latest series by Art Advisory Budapest, we present artworks that have found their permanent place in homes, offices, and collections, inspiring those interested in acquiring art and building collections.

Quality Above All – this phrase could well serve as the motto of the Sauska Winery in Villány. Not only has Sauska played a pivotal role in the renewal of winemaking in the region, but its winery, completed in 2016, was also honored with the Construction Industry Award of Excellence. Designed and later expanded by architect Péter Sugár, the complex pays homage to the heritage of vineyard press houses and brick-built industrial structures.

A standout feature of the monumental building is Genesis, a sculpture by Boldizsár Szmrecsányi, known as BOLDI, which is placed in the courtyard. The artwork serves as a focal point in the space before the winery, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding architectural structures. Here, architecture and sculpture intertwine—the materials of wood, brick, and marble, along with sharp and rounded forms, complement one another. The title Genesis, derived from the Greek word for creation, references the sublime process of creation, making it a fitting addition to the rich and fertile environment of the vineyard and winery.

BOLDI creates stylized, formally cohesive sculptures. His primary artistic pursuit is the classical representation of the human form, along with showcasing the beauty of different types of marble.

"I have long been fascinated by the essence of human existence, the origins of life, and attempts to express these ideas as powerfully as possible through art. The Genesis sculpture is an abstracted form that symbolizes the origin of beginnings, the essence of creation, and the origins of life. Its harmonious, flowing composition indirectly represents fertility, the start of a new life, emergence, and the eternal cycle." BOLDI
